Use these 10 hints to avoid having a loss in your business or home-
- Do not leave electronics on the floor. This includes, iPads, computers, laptops, DVD players, phones, etc.
- Leave a 3-4 inch gap between the back of the washing machine and the wall. This will help avoid the hose kinking near the valve connection. It is also smart to replace your washing machine hose every 5 years.
- Pay attention to your water bill. A significant increase could indicate a leak somewhere in your home or business.
- Make sure each resident in your home or business knows where the main shut-off is located. If you are unsure where this is located, contact us for a FREE Emergency Ready Plan.
- Have an annual professional roof inspection. This can catch problems early, and avoid larger problems.
- Have your plumbing pipes inspected on an annual basis for condensation, obvious leaks or corrosion.
- After flushing the toilet, remain in the area until the fill valve has finished refilling the tank.
- Make sure your downspouts are directed 5 to 10 feet away from your house. Clean all debris buildup monthly.
- Chemical drain cleaners can eat away at your pipes. Use a drain snake first. This is suggested every 3-4 months depending on the size of your household.
- Flush your hot water heater every 6 months to remove built up sediment. You can call in a licensed plumber to do this if you are unsure how.
Using these tips will help you identify problem areas in your home before a loss happens.
